Notice of Race


1 Rules

The regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of Yachting New Zealand (YNZ), the rules of the R Class Skiff class and this Notice of Race (except as any of these are changed by the sailing instructions). The regatta is designated Category B with regard to Appendix G.

2 Alterations of Class Rules

The rules of the R class Skiff will be altered as follows :

2.1 R Class Specifications Rule 5.1 will be altered, an addition to read ‘Mainsails may be shackled to the top of the mast. In this case a shackle key must be carried.”

2.2Leander Trophy Conditions Rule 7.4 will be replaced by ‘Sails nominated for use during the contest shall be clearly marked ‘Leander 2000” on the measurement form, beside the area total of each nominated sail.

3 Eligibility and Entry

3.1 All competitors must be a financial member of a club affiliated to YNZ and a member of their regional R Class Skiff Squadron.

3.2 The regatta is open to all boats of the R Class Skiff class.

3.3 Entries will be accepted until the normal closing date of 18th February, using the attached entry form accompanied by a fee of $70 and mailing it to

3.4 Late entries, will be accepted until 0930 hours on 24th February accompanied by the $70 entry fee.

3.5 Each boat shall submit a valid measurement form at registration.

*5 Sailing Instructions

The sailing instructions will be available at Registration.

6 Racing Area

The races will be held on Lyttelton Harbour between Parsons Rock and Quail Island.

*7 Courses to be Sailed

The courses will consist of:

1.Windward Leeward and Triangle rounds finishing off the wind. Target time 75 min.
2.Windward Leeward rounds incorporating a gate halfway down the leeward leg finishing off the wind. Target time 50 min.
3.A Long Harbour Race finishing off the wind. Target time 100 min.

8 Scoring

points will be awarded according to the formula:

400/(N+3), where N is the official finishing place of a boat.

Boats disqualified or not competing in any one race (DNC, OCS, RET, DSQ) shall receive no points for that race and shall not be given a finishing position.

Competing boats that fail to finish (DNS, DNF) in any one race shall receive half of the average points these boats would have received had they all finished.

Ties will be broken in accordance with RRS A2.3

There will be 8 races of which 5 shall be completed to constitute a series, all races being counted for total points.

9 Alternative Penalties

In accordance with RRS 44.1 a penalty for breaking a rule of Part 2 is specified as a 360 degrees Turn penalty. The turn must include one tack and one gybe.

10 Prizes

The Championship winner will be presented with the Leander Trophy.

SuperCup and Masters Series

A SuperCup Sprint Series is programmed for the afternoon of Sunday February
