Invitation Race of 2002 12' Skiff Interdominion Championships

R Class boats take top three positions in Interdoms Invitation Race

Taking the skiff world by storm, massive underdogs Subwoofer take out the invitation race of the 2002 12' Skiff Interdominion Championships at Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club in Wellington. Subwoofer, sailed by Paul Roe and Jason Russell, was closely followed by Chemical Weapon, sailed by Sean Milner and stand-in crew Steven Fortune, and Meridian Energy, sailed by Dave Pairman and Tim Allan, completing a trifecta for Canterbury R-class crews at this prestigious event.
Well underpowered at times in the 8-14 knot conditions, the R-class crews combined sharp tactics and boathandling in the tricky conditions to make a clean sweep of the race, surprising some of the 12' sailors, using much larger rigs and expecting a large boatspeed edge. This lead a leading 12' sailor to remark, "You better watch out for these guys!".
