Proposal for E Rule (Round bilge) to be deleted.

At the Annual squadron conference, July 2004, Canturbury proposed: REMIT. 1.0 Round bilge (E Rule) to be deleted.

Probably the most important item discussed in the annual squadron conference is the deletion of Rule 1.1 in Remit 1 a 2/3 majority required for the remit to pass. See the rules.

See the 2004 Annual Conference Report

REMIT submitted by Canterbury R squadron

That rule 1.0 (1.1) be deleted.

1.0 Round bilge

  1. 1 The Hull shall be round bilge construction. This shall be determined by the bilge falling within the following shaped pattern. Only the points of A and B must remain touching the outer skin of the hull when the pattern is laid athwart ships anywhere except 100mm either side of the centreline of the hull

To be replaced to read

1.0 Deleted

The rationale behind this remit is firstly to open up the class for further development of hulls by allowing greater scope in designs. Secondly the rule was only ever implemented to differentiate the class from what was around in the 1950's, eg Idle Alongs and X class that were constructed using ply and had hard chines. Having spoken to Graham he is of the opinion as we are that if without this rule faster designs are possible, then we should delete rule 1.0 (1.1) so that development can proceed as this was always the intention of the founders of the class in the beginning.

This change would also allow all 12' skiff hulls to comply with the R class rule.
