2015 Intergalactic Series Race 4 report

Tide versus 20 knots NE = big steep breaking chop.

So most of us managed to avoid swimming before the gun, and the pack got away in a tight little cluster. Both the foiling boats struggled to find form and speed in the messy conditions; while the Weapon made good progress in semi-submersible foam making mode. The Merde fluked 2 reasonable tacks and squeezed out to 100m lead at the first top mark rounding. When Merde dipped low and slow to the bottom mark, the MoreFM very happy pink triangle ate that lead to be side by side. MoreFM was too slow gybing in the chop, and canned it. At the next top mark rounding, P Holder esq, demonstrated supreme body skiing skills, and so filled Merde with seawater. A miraculous non-swim recovery saw Merde retain a reasonable lead as they then erratically boosted off down-hill. In contrast, the foam making magic roundabout Dougal & Jimmy partnership were in total control (OK, a little white lie there) hard-charging with the big red bag on; scattering other innocent water users aside to hunt right up to insult-exchangeable-distance, with Merde, at the last bottom mark rounding. Merde then demonstrated another advantage in foiling – as they cranked the ride height up and cleared most of the mounting swell, and smoked to victory.

After an interminable, several times swim punctuated, wait for MoreFM to get back to the line; the non-Intergalactic second race blasted off in a paltry 20 – 25 knots – #coolshit

T’was a day of tight racing in challenging conditions. Excellent fun all round.
