2012 - 2013 Intergalactic Series Race 6 Report

A terrific days sailing was scored by 4 R crews today. ‘Twas barmy and light at launching time, but the Wind God laid in a nice 10 knots, puffing 12, ENE breeze for the first race.

Quickly swapped the sombrero for the crash hat. Dave and Peter re-discovered that going for a quick burn before the race is not always a prudent course of action – as we missed the start by 4 or 5 minutes – putain de merde! But hey, it was a great day to be foiling, with The Virtual clocking 15, touching 16 knots upwind and Merde and raptR rounded the top mark side by side. More FM, proudly sporting the Gay-Rights pink triangle, put on great pace to close right up on The Virtual. Across the line order

TheVirtual R607 [Paul Roe, Malcolm Snowdon]

More FM R565 [Steve MacIntosh, Tony Park]

Merde R589 [Dave Pairman, Peter Holder]

raptR R567 [Sean Miliner, Simon Collet]

Quick 3 minute start sequence to the second race, and the wind shifted 90 degrees right on the gun, and died to <4 knots within a minute. Three Rs gallantly limped up hill – only to have the top mark lifted up and spirited off by a very keen race official. As the marks were vanishing and the water was heading to glassy at this stage, we abandoned the race and all rushed back to the club house, mostly at 0.4 to 0.7 knots, but a late puff did see some show-off foiling by Paul and Malcolm – which very nearly gave the only swim of the day.
