Merde boys on foiler and foil baking progress

Dave and Tim sail on the foiler and the first set of prepreg foils are nearly complete and the second set are well underway.

Lyttelton produced some great conditions (Sat 28th March 2009) for racing and introducing more of the guys to foiling. Breeze started around 13kts slowly building to around 18kts.  After the first race Dave took over on helming L3 and made it look pretty easy. After a lap and a bit Tim had a go crewing. During the crew swap one of the main foil pins fell out which lead to a couple of spectacular crashes. But once the pin was back things went well.

Foil building

The first set of foils is all foam filled, levelled and ready to join together. The second set have been started, with the first 3 halves foam filled. Not too far to go before there's another couple of boats on the water. Dave and I are getting systems sorted. We had some issues with the reusable compressible seal on the retangular frame that mates the vacuum bag to the table, but after changing the foam and getting more clamps things are working really well. We're also in the process of upgrading the heaters so things can be operated with less supervision during the fairly long heat cycles. More photos.
