Opti and P Class open day

After a dodgy start with no wind and some onshore wiring, tacking and kite fun, the breeze kicked in to 8-10 kts up the harbour.

Opti and P Class open day

William Talbot

A couple of finns, a modified 18footer sportboat, a 420 and a couple of R's made up the fleet for the youth open day. Tim Allan on Merde took out Jonathan Barthelmeh, William Talbot and Sam Herron, while Paul Roe on Subwoofer sailed with, Layton Hern and Laura Barthelmeh. Conditions were too light to begin with so we did some onshore tacking, kite hoist and wiring practice, which everyone really enjoyed.

Finally the breeze came in and it was time to put newfound skills to the test. Everyone sailed really well and Tim and Paul were extremely pleased to stay dry with no capsizes. Layton and Laura skippered upwind from the wire, there was just enough breeze to twinwire on Subwoofer  up the last couple of beats.

Great fun all round, thanks to the guys for providing boats and their time and the P and Opti sailors for being so keen.
