Great NE Conditions 13 Oct 2007

Flat water and 18-20kts made for fantastic sailing on Lyttelton harbour

Saturday saw the first NE of the season after a couple of NW and variable days over the last few weekends. There was a bit of chop in the first race making for some air downhill with the still outgoing tide. Only Merde and TheVirtual did the correct course as there was some confusion over the top mark. The second race was flat as the tide had turned. Nuplex, Apple, Merde and TheVirtual really enjoyed the excellent conditions. Things were close off the mark all the way up with the L3 hulls doing well. Dan and Sean in Nuplex climbed out from below Merde's Dave Pairman and Tim Allan. With Jess and Paul in TheVirtual making up a 20sec deficit at the start to climb just above Merde by the first tack. Steve and Tony in Apple did well up the middle of the course. Downhill was really enjoyable. Somehow TheVirtual managed a spectaular (thanks to the TY crew for the feedback) cartwheel in the flat water with Jess swinging well round and landing a few meters past and above the end of the prod, Paul landed flat on the main and popped 3 panels finishing their day. Nuplex finished first, Merde second and Apple third, with everyone really enjoying the day. The waters still a bit cold, but who cares when the conditions are so good.
