Canterbury Commodores Report 2005/06 Season

The Commodores season report tabled at the Annual General Meeting, 1 August 2006

This season has been a busy one with Canterbury hosting the Leander Trophy. I felt that the contest itself went very well and I would like to thank our sponsors and all the members who put in a great effort. Conditions were varied so that no single boat always had the advantage. Racing was always close with placing changing throughout the fleet. In the end it went right down to the last jibe before we had a winner – unfortunately an Auckland boat – congratulations Paul and Kenny. At least Canterbury got second and third and the sprints.

It was disappointing that Wellington did not contest the Rudderman, but we had a great time despite that. On a more positive note, it is great to see some fresh faces in the (south) Canterbury Squadron.

The other point of note from the 2005/06 season was the design, build and launching of Sean and Dan’s new radical hull. It showed real pace throughout the season and just needs a bit more consistency in sailing to be unbeatable in most conditions. With Paul building another off the mould, I think the class will step up another notch.
