Another upcoming event of non importance!

The R class, a class that has no historical bearing on yachting in the club, Canterbury, or even NZ, is having a wee event during February 24-27 at our club.

It is only our 50th national event, "The Leander Trophy". It is not a very important event in yachting, as every class that has ever been designed and raced in NZ boasts 50 years of nationals. The fact that the R still attracts over 40 boats for the event is irrelevant. Besides, over the years no one of any significance, who has sailed R's, has ever gone on to do anything worth noting. No, only dead beats are attracted to a deadbeat class like the R. The R is after all a development class with very few restrictions, but don't be misled into thinking that it requires any skill or vision to build and/or sail. If you want to see what an R is really all about, come along to the club during 24-27 February.

If you are a past R sailor, come along and get involved. Better still, if you know the whereabouts of old R boats that have been stashed away or ex R sailors, please see the contact us

Happy sailing, love Sean (the boy man lad)
