14/4/2001 Report on the 2nd day of racing in Leander 2001

Racing report for day 2 of Leander 2001

Day 2

Conditions: F&P Smartdrive1 - Delicates and panties wash. Breeze 5 (+/-7)kts. Tide 10kts

Traffic: Heavy on major freeways. LOMBARDs2 at the wheel.

Race 3 and 4

A win each to Design Source and Smit Millar. With Exonet second in Race 3 and Chemical Weapon second in Race 4. 18+ boats finishing both races.

Committee boat found good speed to windward between races leaving some non fossil fueled boats late for race 4.

The pin end was slightly favoured in order to protect the finish of Pauls Gin Palace. Rendering a starboard start impossible, and a port start challenging particularly for Old Smit Millar who failed to cross alltogether.

Meridian Energy used their inside knowledge on hydrology to get a flying start and reached the top mark three Megawatts before the next boat. Apparently this river didn't flow downhill, with designer chemicals overpowering them (Design Source and Chemical Weapon).

Buffy the Custard Slayer proved you cant Parksy a pole on a Custard Square (R557).

1F&P - Fisher & Paykel. New Zealand washing machine manufacturer.
